Nassau County Police Community Oriented Police Enforcement officers on routine patrol spotted a 2008 white Ford Mustang that was running idle in the parking lot of the AMC movie theater on Hempstead Turnpike in Levittown, police said.

When officers went to investigate, they found an unconscious woman, later identified as Brittany Morgan, who police say is homeless, inside and a welfare check was conducted.

According to police, Morgan was stirred by officers and “made a furtive gesture with her hands and was given several commands to show her hands, in which she refused to comply.”

Police said that the officers were able to remove Morgan from the Mustang, at which point they found a black handgun on the front passenger seat. Morgan was then placed into police custody without further incident. The handgun was found to be loaded with armor-piercing bullets and further investigation found, a large number of additional bullets, multiple magazines, a ski mask and burglary tools inside the car.

Morgan was arrested and charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, 10 counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, possession of burglar tools and willful defacement of a weapon.

Following her processing, Morgan was scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Monday. Jan. 6.
